Leaving Denmark

When moving from Denmark, there are different rules depending on whether you are moving to a Nordic or a non-Nordic country.

If you move from Denmark to another Nordic country, you must both register with the local registration authority in the country to which you move and deregister from the national register (CPR) in Denmark.

If you travel abroad for more than six months, you must deregister from the national register (CPR) in Denmark. If you leave the country for less than six months, you can continue to be registered with a Danish residence. However, this requires that you have full control over your Danish residence throughout the period.

Reporting your departure

You have to report you departure digitally.

If you need help, you can get it from the Citizen Service (Borgerservice), but remember to book an appointment in advance.

Your residence permit

If you leave Denmark for an extended period of time or if you no longer maintain a residence in Denmark, your residence permit can lapse.

If you hold a residence permit on the grounds of asylum or family reunification, the Danish Immigration Service is handling questions regarding lapsing.

If you hold a residence permit on the grounds of work, studies, au pair or internship, the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration is handling questions regarding lapsing.
