About Childcare Facilities

In Denmark it is common practice that both parents work. Thus, the children are often in childcare facilities until they attend school. Here the child´s development, as well as social activities, is brought into focus.

Randers offers different types of childcare facilities, depending on the child´s age.

Types of childcare facilities

If your child is less than 3 years old, you can choose whether it should be taken care of in a nursery or in a day care. In a nursery there are often a lot of children, while in a day care there are generally between 4-5 children. Shortly after your child’s third birthday, the child goes off to a day care center for older children and stays there until attending school when the child turns 6.

After school care for pupils

Often your workday is longer than your child´s school day. After school your child can be taken care of in an after school care program, also called a SFO. Here your child can be together with his or her friends from school and take part in social activities.

Grants and childcare guarantee

In Randers it is guaranteed that your child will be offered a spot in a childcare facility, though you have to pay for it.  The guarantee applies once the child is older than 26 weeks, up until it starts in school. Your child must be put on the waiting list for childcare guarantee at least three months before the child needs to be taken care of.

You can also choose to stay at home with your child, then you can receive a grant.
